Interesting that the article has no mention of extending the Capital Corridor to Salinas, which I thought was the idea being most talked-about recently. Extending Caltrain would likely require that Monterey County join the Peninsula Joint Powers Board, and they would probably be put off by the cost. Admittedly, getting commuters to Silicon Valley and SF is probably the most important goal, but I think getting the Capital Corridor to Salinas would be easier (especially money-wise) and still worthwhile. The original Capital Corridor plan at the beginning included three round trips a day to Monterey, but of course that never happened and likely never will. A "Thruway Motor Coach" from Salinas would probably suffice.
