Siskiyou Line Update:
The light at the end of the tunnel could get brighter for the South portion of the Siskiyou rail line.
The Surface Transportation Board issued a decision late Friday that postpones any action for 30 days to allow the parties involved to work out negotiations on the line.
Union Pacific Railroad owns the subject track from Weed, California to Ashland and takes no position on the merits of the alternative rail service request.
U-P leases 80 miles of track to Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad from Black Butte Junction to Ashland.
In an August 29th filing, U-P states that if Alternative Service is granted, the new operator West Texas & Lubbock Railway must enter into an agreement with the U-P to operate the 80 mile segment. CORP owns the remaining segment from Ashland to Dillard.
All of the involved parties, Roseburg Forest Products, Timber Products, Suburban Propane, Yreka Western Railroad and the West Texas & Lubbock Railway must report back to the STB on October 20th the status of the negotiations.
