We currently have about 13 GP 38-2's geared at 65:12. They were purchased in the sixties when we pulled 40 ft boxes and small tanks. Now we have to pull 7% grades with thirty 180,000 lb tank cars of sulfuric acid. Our top speed around our copper mine is 15% so speed is not an issue. Would we do better if we geared these units even lower?
