All 20 of SP's low-nose GP9s remained on the roster until being retired between 1982 and 1998.

The 5886 which you referenced was renumbered to 3722 in the 1965 general renumbering, then to 3881 in 1977, and finally to 2869 in 1978. It was retired in 1984 and used as trade-in credit against new GP40-2s.
