"But this project is definitely still worth doing for $100B. The right-of-way alone is a hundred-plus-year investment for future times when high-speed rail will be as obsolete as a steam locomotive is today. The physical laws of motion will still be the same-- to move quickly, conveniently and in comfort you will always need a ROW that has gentle curvature and serves population centers."
Clem,
From what I've noticed that you're a pretty free spending fellow, with other folks money. And, that you're perfectly willing to spend it on something that we never needed, still don't need, and now will be costing about 3 or 4 times more than "promised". Which is, unfortunately, money that is being pissed away, that we could really use, today, on much "needed", well planned, affordable, real interurban, intercity, regional, and local passenger rail transit "needs", on our states most congested travel corridors.
So, I just have to ask, since, with my fifty years of rail, and transportation planning experience, actually being paid to do it, what kind of education, employment, and experience doing these things is this opinion, that this is worth $100 billion, actually based on?
And, your background in Physics?
I kind of figured that this one would really get Mouse off, though. Mom's going to need wipes and Lysol...
