The Woodfin Suites Hotel in Emeryville, CA has a great view, from the rear-facing rooms, of the Emeryville Amtrak station and the busy UP main. Safe location as well. When my wife and I checked in, the desk clerk asked if we had any preference for room location. Of course, I requested a room overlooking the tracks. THAT managed to produce a completely puzzled look from the clerk!!!
