Lane Mountain Sand

I always figured Lane Mountain Sand was a determining factor in BNSF’s decision to put the interchange between Valley and Chewelah. Lane Mountain seems to ship a fair amount. In addition to the ubiquitous covered hoppers I see there, I also see BNSF “sand cars”, older two-bay covered hoppers. I assume this is locomotive traction sand?

Hoghead 1: Are you a local? My place overlooks the tracks near Bluecreek.
