Eric, the Beaverton WES crossing is unique, but only because the tracks are in the middle of the intersection instead of parallel to it.
The crossing gates are just moved back to the next available place to stop perpendicular traffic. Yes, the preemption from RR signal house triggers the traffic lights, along with flashing RR Lights next to the solid red turn traffic light. <<— is that the part that you meant is hybrid vs. a standard RR crossing / traffic light interface where they are two completely separate systen except for the preemption relay?
This section of track is Commutter Rail ONLY, so perhaps there are some variables that enter in because of that too.
