Great photos! I moved to the L.A. area in 1964 after the freeway had been built, but recall tracks embedded in street pavements all over town. The "Wingfoot" turn, so called because it served a Goodyear Tire facility, ran along the Air Line right of way, turned north on Sepulveda, and then east along Santa Monica Blvd. through Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and into Hollywood. At night you would see a switcher engine, a couple of freight cars and a caboose inching along Santa Monica Blvd, stopping for traffic signals, perhaps to drop a carload of lumber at Terry Lumber Company. Richard Steinheimer's book "Growing Up with Trains" has a beautiful color photo inside the back cover of SP SW1 #1171 making its late night run down Santa Monica Blvd. (That book also has many other PERY photos.)
