As I understand it, both the SP and the Santa Fe toyed with the idea of electrification in the 1960s. Santa Fe dropped it almost instantly when it recognized that the cost of the copper wie alone would be more than the capital value of the whole railroad. This was apparently proved out in the real world with the statement on one of Charles Smiley's videos that the only company that made money from the Milwaukee Road electrification was Anaconda Copper.
