This change has nothing to do with through traffic on the Coast Line (almost non-existent). It just has to do with changing the existing train schedules from day/evening to dead of night. At least one train involved goes up the SF peninsula from Warm Springs. The much diminished Newhall yard in Santa Clara has been completely vacant the last month as even the rock job and SF cars aren't left there anymore due to the new operation schedule.
