And then there are those who deliberately (or was it ignorantly) sensationalize the news, blowing the story all out of proportion (case in point - the 1st post on this thread). I suppose that did get attention though. Actually, it does seem to sell newspapers to the shallow masses that only want entertainment.

But then again, some reporters have been caught deliberately faking news stories - grinding their political axes on the public's good -

Their job is to get it right - or who needs them! We complain about inaccurate and misleading reporting on railroads, only because we know just enough to be aware of it. But what about other areas where we can only know what some reporter tells us (Iraq comes to mind). Are they any more accurate there! I doubt it. And there are a lot more axes to grind there!

It will be the ultimate downfall of the American democracy if conscientious voters don't have accurate facts to base their votes on! Remember, that already happened before - in Germany, if memory serves - and not that long ago either.

There is no excuse for sloppy reporting, and it really should never be tolerated.! If this keeps getting worse, reporters will have to rank right up there with lawyers, congressmen and other scumbags.
