The last proposal from the Union Pacific to add a Coast Daylight was:
COAST SUB: Add CTC, install 20 end of siding power switches and 3 end of 2MT switches
and extend two sidings (Bradley and King City) to 10,000 feet
SANTA BARBARA SUB: Add CTC, install 22 end of siding power switches, extend three sidings (Narlon, Concepcion and Seacliff) to 10,000 feet and add a 10,000 foot siding at Ortega (between Santa Barbara and Seacliff).
ALSO: All jointed rail needed to be replaced with Continuous Welded Rail. They also recommended that the single track between CP Raymer and CP Bernson on Metrolink
One of the biggest issues with the proposal was the sheer number of station stops proposed for this service and the proposed run time. There were so many proposed stops that UP said it gave the train a "milk run" feel. Also the proposed schedule was WAY TOO tight. With no recovery time at all.
There was no cost listed.
