Re: Sulzer How did they pull in actual service, with the sulzer maybach drive?

My understanding of the mechanical drive is that each truck's axles were all geared together which helped with individual axle slip. And maybe that the two engines were each dedicated to a single truck. I don't know if there were any other measures to control wheel-slip specific to this design. The rest is (somewhat unfortunate) history as fine-tuned German engineering design ran head-on into American railroad practices.

It's taken decades but apparently, North American railroading industry is finally warming up to inverter-driven AC traction in the recent decade or so. DC traction days may be numbered; we'll see if we live long enough.

Ingalls Shipyards in Mississippi made a one-off freight loco (Ingalls 4-S) that looked similar, which I spotted a few times in GM&O colors in Union City, TN. Also unusual in that the rear end was kind of a crew lounge. Anyone got any photos or further info?
