The 1100 track brakes would always slap on hard just before complete stop. The San Francisco original cars did not jerk to a stop like that. As I recall the double ended cars stopped the smoothest.
I remember when they put Bochum wheels on I believe the 1040. Interesting sound and louder. The skinny cars they got from Toronto seemed to run like a typical PCC. The St. Louis 1100's had GE motors and controls as I recall. The others were Westinghouse 1432? I am not sure abut the double-ended.
The PCC like cars in Europe from ca. 1970 that I thought were the smoothest and best riding were the Goteborg cars from ASEA; the ACEC cars in Den Haag not bad.
