Those jerky stops were mostly the drum brake actuators coming on because they were all or nothing, instantly. It also had to do with the Muni using higher friction brake linings for the SF hills than were used in relatively flat St. Louis.

Different type of drum brake actuator and actuator control system, which were designed to avoid this. The double-enders and 1016-1040 all have the same drum brake system.

Same as the 1100s. However, any double-ender which has been rebuilt by Brookville now has Westinghouse control (has to do with replacement parts availability).
