thanks for a useful explanation of the several issues. It is remarkable that it took 4 decades to admit to the profile mistake, but this is just part of the carpets, no handgrabs on the ceilings (when first delivered), and many other examples of the "we know better than 50 years of experience" history of BART's design behavior. Happily some of these are easily fixed.
