Yep. In California, there is a section of the drivers license test with questions about the rules regarding railroad crossings. Even if they don't read the vehicle code summary. It isn't like they don't know about it. It is still on the test. It doesn't matter about the written rules, signage, crossing gates, flashing lights, bells, media coverage or good sense. As long as people have a me first attitude, we may continue to thin the herd. It's the locomotive engineers who suffer from the driver's stupidity. They will remember the experience for the rest of their lives. If only I could have applied the brakes a little bit sooner. No, you aren't going to stop hundreds of tons of train going forty miles an hour in twenty feet when that idiot decides he's going to beat you. But you get to live with the trauma every day. And then you wonder what is going to happen at the next grade crossing, and the next crossing after that run after run, day or night.
