No, you are totally WRONG! Ted was running 844, and forgot he had the diesel MU Control Box in throttle 7 when he attempted to slow dow for the scheduled service stop. Ted kept applying air, and finally put the brake valve in emergency. The current manager, who was on the Fireman's side, training a new Fireman, rushed across the cab, placed the power reverse gear into reverse and re-opened the throttle. The result locked up the drivers! There was NEVER anything wrong with the MU Control Box, just the nut on the seat box.

Wrong again! He changed the original Wilson Blowdown (Sludge Remover) system, didn't perform early morning blowdowns prior to relighting the fire, and changed the total water treatment chemicals. I was present when 844 received a total & complete boiler wash in September 2010. He inhereted a 4-8-4 with a TOTALLY clean boiler inside.
