I don't have Drew's insight to know who you are, but having the money to fix it is not the issue--the issue is how to keep the 18 in good condition so that it's value is not diminished. Until quite recently three of the McCloud's steam locomotives were still in Siskiyou county, and now they are being scattered to the winds. Many of us hoped they might get to stay together on the V & T, although now it appears that won't happen, nor is it apparently practical due to the railroad's curvature. What is practical is the trade or sale of 18 for a locomotive that can run on the new tracks (hmm, 25 maybe?).
But to tell us to "cut up the sucker then" is (and I hate to say this as it will probably inflame you, but think about it before you respond) childish. C'mon, we're adults here and this IS a valid discussion. And because most probably don't know what operation does to a steam locomotive, nor the maintenance required to keep one in condition, and to FRA standards; it is normal for questions to be asked. And it is proper for those who know to explain it to the rest of us.
S'
David Dewey
