One of my last SP jobs, called on my weekend off, was working J yard, when we hauled the Ringling Brothers train up "old" Alameda, that we picked up at Tweedy, on the back end of the train, and they cut off the road power, and I pulled in from J yard, out the "Air Line" across from USC, where they unloaded train, for their show at the old Sport Arena. I got an extra days pay for outside of Yard Limits, the PE was brakeman territory, to boot.
I used to work the "Air Line" jobs back when, there were two jobs, one out of J yard (Butte Street on the old PE), switched between J yard (a day job? IIRC?) and dropped branch cars at Culver City. And, one job out of Culver City, 6 pm on duty, night job. The Culver City job would usually go out to all of the branches, Inglewood, and Venice, about twice a week (OT nights), and West Hollywood and Santa Monica every night (early quit nights), six days a week.
At the end there was only one job, a night job, as the branches to Venice, Inglewood and out Santa Monica to West LA were abandoned.
