Something being overlooked here is that any new boiler or firebox has to be designed and constructed to comply with both ASME code and FRA Part 230, Period. NO EXCEPTIONS.
The old business of having Jimmy Joe Bobs Boiler Building and Storm Door Repair Shop in East Overshoe, Appalachia is a bunch of hooey, and Levin, Moorman, and company are well aware of that.
There are good, solid companies out there who are ASME stamp-holders and do very high-quality, fully code-compliant work. Unfortunately, there are also a few who get high praise in some circles of foamer ignoramuses who are more than willing to come in, spend all your money, and leave you a half-finished lump of steel that would not make a good boat anchor and is worthless as a legal boiler.
