Don't misunderstand me, gentlemen. I am all for retaining rail lines that are viable, with minimum cost to the taxpayer. I have always said that a million dollars spent on a railroad, will deliver much more than the same amount spent on highways. The bigger question is, does the State of Oregon & local municipalities have the money to spend on either one ??? Up here on our side of the ( Columbia ) river, all sorts of draconian budget cuts are already underway, even to such essential services as the King Co. Sheriff Dept. I fear for the future of state funding for the Amtrak Talgos, too.
