That raises the question - was Steamtown the best choice for a National Park created highlight America's railroad heritage? Some felt that the money would have been better spent at East Broad Top which has provided a more authentic experience than riding behind a Canadian locomotive over former Lackawanna track. On the other hand, Steamtown's defenders note that Scranton is situated near a much larger population base.
I don't have an answer, just posing a question.
