Yea, I " wasted " many a Friday night at Espee Pomona Depot, kicking around with The Train Punks & taking in the action. The highlight was always E/B Amtrak # 2, The Sunset. Listening to those GE's chugg - Chugg - CHUGG away from the station stop was worth waiting until Midnight or later; sometimes even 2 or 3AM ( it WAS a long ways from LAUPT after all ). Clear nights with a Santa Ana wind blowing were the best; we could then hear the train all the way to Ontario.
Additional entertainment was often provided by those Amtrak passengers who had waited at the WRONG DEPOT -- the Santa Fe depot on NORTH Geary Ave -- only to drive up just as # 2 left.
Them : " Where does the train stop next ? " Us : " Palm Springs !!! " Those esrtwhile passengers often explained that they bought their tickets @ North Pomona Depot, so the train must stop there, RIGHT ?
