Yes, I have ridden over the last couple of years on LOSSAN and the Starlate. The clientele did not seem very "scary" to me. Most Amtrak LOSSAN and LOSSAN customers appear to be above average income, clean, and very courteous (something I can't say about most of my Greyhound riding experience).
Most folks I see on the station web cams every day, and that I've ridden dozens of times with, look clean, civil, and are nowadays complying with distancing and mask requirements without much problem, So no, I doubt most normal people would consider that the Amtrak clientele is "scary" by most definitions of "scary". And, Amtrak is certainly not "almost worse than Greyhound" from most normal folks experience with Greyhound, not even close.
Maybe, the event that may have occurred (we don't know what actually scared her?) to your granddaughter was a one off experience? I've been on an airliner where they once took a drunken passenger off the plane, so things do happen. But, should we take a guess that you're also an Amtrak "hater", because you feel that "Our tax money being spent on this disaster is a total waste"?
