Starting from Burney, a lot of the r/w is still intact. If Google is correct, the tracks are still in the Hwy 89 crossing N of Burney, the bridge over Lake Britton and the overpass of Hwy 89 there are intact. I can't believe that those are actually still there - and the Google Maps (not Earth) photos don't always have a good date. The street view imagery from that area is from 2007, though, so bets on everything still being there would be long shots. Another indicator: the skewed crossing of 89 just south of the junction with the main line has the highway fully rebuilt and stacks of ties - so it has to be from near abandonment time.

Now that's interesting. At the east end near Lookout Jct, several miles of track back into the woods and a balloon track of sorts still exists in the (probably pretty old) Google sat photos. Pretty decrepit, but there. I suppose if car storage is really needed BNSF could patch it up enough to work for that. Bunch of centerbeams were stored in the yard just south of the jct at the time of the photo. [www.google.com]

East of Pilgrim Creek Rd., it appears to be a "rail trail" now. Couple of trailheads feature in Google. Probably was popular with the ORV set before Covid. Closer to McCloud, Google shows it to be pretty much a junkyard - has all that scrap been cleared by now?
