I live in Tulelake and last week the UP had traffic flag guys on each of the grade crossings. On the Main Street crossing I had a chat with a foreman and he told me the line is being upgraded all the way to Alturas. This is being done because of the new bio fuels that will be coming out of Lakeview on the Goose Lake Railway. They no longer interchange at Perez, because it takes Goose Lake about six hours to make the run down to Alturas and arrive at Perez very late. The foreman told me he has no idea if Goose Lake is able to upgrade their track. I heard that Goose Lake got some Federal money to upgrade bridges a couple of years ago. Maybe they might get another grant for some more work.
