I use a Minolta Dimage Elite Scan 5400 and then work them over in Photoshop Elements 5.0. Unfortunatly, Konica-Minolta has gone out of the photo products business and this scanner is no longer made. Sony took over product support and repair but not production. I bought a second one on Ebay earlier this year.

Epson makes a flatbed with a slide adapter that can do 5400dpi and, from what I've seen, does a very good job for my friend who has one.
