It may just be me, but it seems like Mr. Jacksich has always presented his photos with a theme: His images of everyday railroading are very often placed in a broader historical and political context.

His photo of the Sacramento Northern electric (in a newer thread above) is just such an example of the theme he's used many times. It is, of course, a well composed image of an interesting subject, and that alone would be worth publication. But, what is most unique about it and which quickly identifies it as being totally his own, is his placing it into the context of the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

In my opinion, this elevates the work from being just an interesting train picture to being a facinating historical story. You see the image and think about not just how railroading has changed, but how the world has changed. The contrast he draws between the meta and micro historic themes is really quite brilliant.
