Another thing to consider is station location. Most HSR stations are located close to city centers and thus close to most public/private transit options. Airports are generally on the fringe of population centers and hence require more time for the trip to the airport.

Also, SF airport is (or was pre-covid) in need of more space for the lucrative international market. HSR will clear up some hangers from domestic flights.
