I don't think he wants answers nor reality. He just wants to flap his gums.
Many years ago when Jane Goodall was doing her chimpanzee research, she found that chimps have a pecking order in their troups. This one chimp was lower than he felt he should be, so he would periodically go through the Goodall's camp overturn the garbage cans, throw them about, and raise a loud ruckus (this was in the days of metal garbage cans). This didn't really raise him up the pecking order, but it did make the rest of the troup pay more attention to him than they normally did. There was a perception of social climbing, not a reality. There is definitely a distinct parallel here.
