The Alpine Tunnel was driven through half solid rock, the balance being a rubble pile. The rubble pile was the problem end. There are photos showing track still inside the tunnel.

The road (DSP&P ROW) was damaged to to rock fall along the Palisades, the portion built by stone masons to create a shelf for the ROW.

Video showing the damage. Questions to the USFS reveal they have no plans to rebuild the shelf. That means the rebuilt station at Alpine station will succumb to the same forces as the original.
