Interesting comments, and "Dead Horse" added perspectives that I wasn't aware of.

I too think that GGRM made the wrong decision to move.
Aside from still having little control over their operational future, they also moved into an area that may not be so welcoming to steam powered trains. There's serious NIMBYism in the north Bay counties. They moved farther away from a majority of their volunteer work force and spent a small fortune having a secure yard facility constructed.

The GRRM is slowly withering away from being the organization they were 20 years ago. A lot has changed in those years, little of it seems to be for the better.
I hope that PLA and the San Jose groups can forge a good working relationship. If it happens in my lifetime, wonderful. If it takes longer, my kids and grandkids may enjoy it.
