Back in Jan of '71 I was returning from leave to complete my tour of military servicce at Ft. Ord, down by Monterey, CA. Flew into San Francisco and worked my way to the Greyhound Station. I was dismayed to see the line of GIs waiting for a bus coming out the front doors and stretching its way several blocks down the street. I was resigned to a long wait, then I remembered the SP's service to Ft. Ord; went to the station, bought a ticket and got a seat, pretty much had the whole car if I remember right. Eventually made it down to Ft. Ord and got off the train, right at the gate, across Highway 1.
There were 2 of us that got off the train, felt kind of cocky walking across the highway in front of all those busses.
