The line between Gibbon and Granger is BNSF's Granger Sub. Except for an occassional grain unit, all operations on it, including the former UP portions at Sunnyside and Grandview are handled by Central Washington Railroad under contract with BNSF. CWRR also handles switching in Yakima. It is a subsidary of the Columbia Baasin Railroad, which took over the portion of the WCRC in the Columbia Basin that BNSF didn't want. The Temple family owns Columbia Basin RR. This does lead, as Hepkema pointed out, to some interesting situations when form UP track is upgraded or added to.

BNSF operates all road hauls on the Yakima Vallety and Stampede subs, including the Yakima Valley turn and Ellensburg switching.
