Federal "Express"?

Shipping something FedEx Ground from DC area to Sacramento area. "Normal" transit time is about a week. So ... shipped Monday and made normal progress to Chicago, about 2 days. Then, after about 1/2 day, it turned up in Cicero IL (an inner suburb of Chicago with a big intermodal yard, according to Google). The last few checkins show it clearly on a slow train to Seattle; in Whitefish MT this morning, after 3 more days (3 days from Chicago usually has it at some sorting center in California). At that rate, it might get to Seattle on Monday or Tuesday. Then presumably 2-3 more days on a truck down the coast after sitting around for a while? "Express?" This one will be lucky to make it in 2 weeks. I think that kind of shipping was faster when we had steam locomotives in the 1860s.
Not the first time a FedEx shipment has done funny things in Chicago, but usually it just gets lost for a few days. This one feels more like somebody saw a city starting with "S" and threw it in the Seattle bin. Beware FedEx. Even Amazon is usually better.
What will the Final Merger of the package companies be? FedUPzone?
