I'll now lay low for several days and everyone can resume their arguments about whether the Donner rotaries are steam or diesel powered and how long it will take to get them ready. Here's a suggestion: Take the C&TS narrow-gauge steam powered rotary, rebuild it for standard-gauge, and use it on Donner Pass -- just for the sake of nostalgia! Or just keep it narrow gauge and shove it real hard down the track. What could possibly go wrong?
