George,
The Expo Line diverts from the Blue Line at Washington Blvd, head south on Flower Street, will go into a tunnel under Figuroa at Exposition. It then comes up in what was the PE Airline (formerly the SP Santa Monica Branch in the 1890's, and the 3' guage Los Angeles and Independence in the 1870's) on the south edge of USC. It will use the Exposition route of the Air Line to Culver City. This is the portion that is now under construction.
An environmental study is being finalized, with two routes to Santa Monica under consideration. One would go all the way on the existing right of way, with some street running in downtown Santa Monica at the end. The other would go down the median Venice Blvd (LAP Balloon Route-PE Venice Line) to Sepulveda, turn north on Sepulveda and rejoin the Airline ROW at the location of the Wye under the 405 Freeway.
The remainder of the Air Line from J yard (Butte Steet) to the I-1I0 appears to be completely out of service.
No more fun of spotting the Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Baily Circus train opposite the Collesium for a show at the Sports Arena and watching them unload the Lions, Tigers and Elephants, another interesting movement on the Air Line.
