Another use for end-door baggage cars

Eight-oared racing shells.

Remember seeing them on the Northern Pacific from Interbay to the University of Washington steam plant, walking distance from their home base on the ship canal.

The oarsmen and staff traveled by train, so the car was for their "baggage". No extra charge.

The Northern Pacific is now the Burke-Gillman trail (paved).
The shell house was built for seaplanes. Now canoes.
