Looks like my comments are too hot to handle outside of just posting this article, so to be fair Timber Heritage deserves lots of credit for keeping that two miles of track between American Samoa and Manilla in the Philippines clean and functional for speeders. I understand NCRA won't let them go over any public crossings? There are two all timber bridges near Arcata.
One over Jacoby Creek needs complete replacement before any tourist passenger service can begin (and that was ten years ago per FRA?). There are two other timber structures, Arcata Marsh and Janes Creek, that also need replacement. Can't imagine what they will do about the long timber bridge at Loleta someday? Six years ago when the motorcar club sponsored a cleanup the rotten tie issue was significant. Since then winter storms and emergency drainage have undermined portions of the track. The tie problem certainly hasn't gotten any better. Sure would make a great "Stimulus Project." And what a great destination the Timber Heritage Museum would be!
