The old men, and a few young men and women have replaced THOUSANDS of ties at the Ardenwood railroad; nearly all of them broken apart in the middle from the clomping of horse hooves over the years.

Add the costs of acquiring and transporting replacement ties, and of disposing the old ties as hazardous material, and it is not a sustainable situation for the all-volunteer, funded by donations SPCRR museum group.

I don't think the horse was necessarily comfortable with the situation either.
