Cain,
It's a lengthy discussion and one that I don't claim to be an authority at this time. It is my understanding that the Gray's have some (complete?)ownership of the name, but they also have an agreement with the Commission rebuilding the line that allows some shared uses of the name. To further complicate matters, you will also see V&T Railroad and the variation V&T Railway used. This is actually similar to the confusion we have on our Sierra Branch where my company uses Sierra Railroad while Railtown 1897 uses Sierra Railway. Overall as just a bidder to operate the Carson City to Virginia City line, it has not been my place to get involved in the discussions surrounding the use of this historic name, though I certainly have an interest. I hope to have this addressed in the next year.
