Bypass would take away one of the most scenic rides in the US

I would vote to keep the current route and just continue to fortify it. This is done all around the world for railroads and roads, it isn't impossible magic. A more permanent concrete structure component would help. Sea walls are not new technology.

I love the ride along the beach and would gladly pass on the 20 minute savings. Faster usually means more riders. But not as much here. The train is a minor tourist attraction that gives Amtrak much needed good publicity.

I guess I'll now be accused of hating trains.

Re: Bypass would take away one of the most scenic rides in the US, I love RR nostalgia, and love this segment, but back on the gridlocked I-5, people need first world rail services. BOB2 09-27-2022 - 19:48
