The Whitman County Gazette a couple of weeks ago published an Ag supplement and had a story on a state rail study. According to this story, the study found lack of shipper interest in trading traffic from one side of the PCC to the other and neither rebuilding the bridge or rebuilding the UP from Oakesdale to Thornton could be justified by shipper interest. This story pegged the cost of rebuilding the bridge at over $9 million and the cost of rebuilding the Oakesdale to Thornton line as over $7 million plus land costs. The story went on to say that there was significant interest in turning the line from Pullman to Colfax into a trail. Don't know if this story was based on the same study or not.
