When it comes to developing transportation options, Marin's major issue is and always will be its prohibitive mountainous peninsular geography. Bridges or tunnels will forever be necessary to directly link rail transit to San Francisco and/or Oakland.
And when it comes to the US 101 freeway in Marin, vehicular gridlock is fairly minimal between the Golden Gate Bridge and Corte Madera, even at peak times. The real boondoggle is from Corte Madera north, through the I-580 interchange, San Rafael, and Novato.
