The DD35s had 567 engines producing 2,500 horsepower each. They were essentially 2 GP35s on the same frame with one(or no) cab. The DDA40X’s came later and used 645 engines, and were basically 2 GP40’s on one frame with an F40 cab. I am not sure why their engines produced 3,300 horsepower instead of the normal 3,000 from a 16-645E engine, but this may have been an adjustment made to the fuel rack or governor.
