Some employees cannot grasp the difference between efficiency & speed. An efficient switchman makes the least amount of moves possible. He doesn't need to be fast. He understands thinking ahead and just like a chess player they're already planning several moves ahead.

I once worked with a foreman who was in a big hurry because he wanted an early quit. We told him that doesn't happen on this particular job. He didn't care and when he cornered a boxcar we basically told him to go tell the yardmaster exactly what he'd done and not to try and implicate either of us fieldmen because it was 100% his fault for trying to go too fast. Didn't matter because the Yardmaster had been following his antics all night. Just handed him the accident report and told him the Trainmaster would be down shortly.
