There is a section of HWY 101 between Hopland and Cloverdale that had regular disruptions with ground movement from landslides. The long term solution was to build a bridge over it and allow the earth to move. Rather than try to hold ocean waves back with a seawall or stabilize slopes, build an elevated causeway and let the earth move. The alignment could be straightened and built parallel the existing line so it does not disrupt traffic during construction .Much of CHSR is built on elevated sections. Train speeds could be greatly increased.
