If you get as far west as Idaho, a neat day could be spent on the Trail of the Hiawatha. This is the railroad grade from East Portal, Montana, through the 1.6 mile long Taft Tunnel (also known as St. Paul Pass Tunnel) to Pearson, Idaho. This is approximately 15 miles of 1.7% descending grade through some of the finest scenery in the Northwest.
